ABOUT AQUATRAILS

Adventure and Sailing

Freedom of the Sea

ABOUT THE CREW

Your Skipper’s Priorities

Safety - Schedule - Discoveries - Good Vibes.

All our skipper-guides are certified by internationally recognized authorities and boast impressive sailing records — whether as owners or skippers of sailboats of all kinds and sizes.

Their foremost priority, as with every responsible sailor, is safety: ensuring that no unnecessary risks are taken and that every guest is familiar with onboard safety procedures.

They follow the planned itinerary with precision, yet remain flexible — adapting routes if weather or sea conditions call for it.

Each skipper understands the purpose behind every leg of your journey, making sure you can live the experience to the fullest.

Beyond the sea, they’ll happily join you in your land-based adventures — from hiking trails to cycling tours.

And while they have plenty of seafaring stories to share, they’re just as eager to hear yours.

All our skippers speak English, many speak French too, and some other languages on top.

ABOUT OUR PRINCIPLES

Our Sustainability Statement

The simple fact that a sailboat can travel using only the wind does not grant its owner or passengers an automatic “eco-friendly” badge.
We believe that it’s not the occasional grand gesture that matters most, but the small, repeated actions of everyday life.

That’s why we take pride in encouraging behaviors that, taken individually, may seem modest — but together, make a real difference. Here are a few simple habits that guide our life on board:

Sailing with the Wind

We use our engines as little as possible — after all, we’re sailors. The wind is free, silent, and infinitely generous. Sailing with it reconnects us with nature instead of resisting it.

Respecting the Seabed

Whenever possible, we choose fixed moorings over anchoring. Anchoring may feel romantic — a nod to the explorers of the past — but every anchor plows the seabed, disturbing ecosystems that deserve care and protection.

Managing Waste Responsibly

Rubbish, by definition, is something unwanted — yet at sea, it becomes our full responsibility.
There’s no Tuesday garbage collection at sea. We compost or return edible matter to the sea for marine life, rinse and store recyclables separately, and minimize packaging wherever we can.  We are aware that some destinations lack recycling facilities, so we bring back what we can for proper treatment.

Using Energy Wisely

Engines don’t just move the boat; they also recharge batteries that power everything on board. Reduced electricity use is a priority.  On land, electricity can feel “natural” because the source is not visible, but at sea, every amp draws fuel from the engine, which makes noise, and leaves a smell — constant reminders of our impact.

Our boats are equipped with solar panels and wind generators — useful tools, but not miracles. Manufacturing and recycling these devices also consume resources. True sustainability begins by simply needing less energy.

Living with the Elements

Our boats are not air-conditioned. Instead, we embrace the tropics for what they are: warm, sunny, and alive.
We slow our rhythm, capture the breeze, swim to cool off, stay in the shade, hydrate often, rest during the hottest hours, and move around when the air is cooler.

Preserving Fresh Water

Fresh water is precious, especially on small islands where production and distribution is a challenge.  We make our own water through desalination, ensuring we don’t draw from local supplies — but it’s energy-intensive, so every drop counts. Conscious use is essential.

Repair, Reuse, Repurpose

We favor repairing over replacing and repurposing over buying new.  Our boat is not brand-new — and proudly so. Each component is maintained to last, and replaced only when necessary. Building a new vessel would mean consuming more raw materials, and most modern boats, designed for mass tourism, wouldn’t meet our standards of efficiency, safety, and seaworthiness anyway.

Reducing Plastics and Chemicals

We avoid plastic containers whenever possible — not always easy in today’s world — and read product labels carefully, favoring natural ingredients over synthetic or chemical ones.

Supporting Local Communities

We buy local. Choosing locally made products supports island economies and reduces transport emissions.
Yes, we have our favorite brands too, but honesty and craftsmanship always win our loyalty.

If You Sail With Us

When you join us on board, we assume you share our values and will help us live by this pledge. Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Bring a reusable water bottle instead of single-use plastics.
  • Throw nothing overboard, except small amounts of biodegradable organic matter.
  • Use shore facilities for showers when possible, and when at sea, shower sparingly with marine-safe products — we’ll show you our low-water tricks!
  • Respect wildlife and give animals space in their natural habitats.
  • Leave only footprints — and pick up any litter you find.
  • Choose low-impact transport when joining or leaving your vessel; car-free travel is often easy and rewarding.
  • Avoid non-biodegradable wipes and bring ocean-friendly sunscreen and toiletries.

Together, these small actions make a big difference.  Sailing, after all, is about harmony — with the sea, the wind, and the world that sustains us.
